Today we rode along the Katy Trail. This trail is a 240 mile trail that was converted into a bike path from old railroad lines that used to run through the state.

We had been warned to expect flats and dangerous conditions, as the path is not paved, which we were all dreading. This quickly changed as soon as we got on the trail.

The trail is incredible. Almost all of it lies beneath a plush canopy of trees which kept us cool throughout the day. When the canopy disappeared the Katy boasted views of beautiful cornfields and the river which ran parallel.

The greatest treat of the Katy was meeting the other people along the trail. Being off of roads lent way to many great conversations. I really enjoyed getting to know the riders of my team, as well as the incredible people who joined us on the Katy.

We met a wide range of people. We met everything from local families just out for a ride and people traveling from other countries. We met a retired couple from Tennessee who decided to bike the Katy as a vacation. We also spoke with a woman who competed in an ironman in Hawaii after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. It really made me realize how many incredible people are out there doing incredible things
